Welcome to KonnectED โ€” a platform that connects language learners with tutors for live 1-on-1 sessions. We are committed to protecting your personal information. This Privacy Policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights as a user. Students may browse tutors and availability without signing in; account creation and sign-in are required only when you book a session.

1. Information We Collect

For Tutors:

  • Email address (used for OTP-based sign-in)
  • Full name, timezone, native language, target language
  • Short bio and topics of expertise
  • Availability slots (start time, end time, topic, description)
  • Profile photo (uploaded during account setup)

For Students:

  • Email address (used for OTP-based sign-in)
  • Display name, timezone, interests, short bio
  • Profile photo (uploaded during account setup)

When browsing without signing in (guest): We do not ask for your email, name, or other account details. You may view published tutor listings and open availability slots only. Personal student data is not collected until you choose to sign in (for example, to book a session).

๐Ÿ” We use passwordless login โ€” you sign in using your email and a One-Time Password (OTP). No passwords are stored.

2. Browsing Without an Account (Students)

Students may use Find a Tutor and explore the app without creating an account or signing in. In guest mode you can:

  • View the list of published tutors (name, bio, languages, topics, profile photo, ratings, and next available slot)
  • View a tutor's open availability calendar (dates and time slots)

What we do not collect in guest mode: We do not require your email, display name, timezone, interests, bio, or profile photo to browse. We do not link guest browsing activity to a student account unless and until you sign in.

When sign-in is required: To book or confirm a session, view your booked sessions, cancel a booking, manage your student profile, join a live session, or delete your student account, you must sign in with email and OTP and complete student account setup as needed.

What other users see: Guest availability views show only tutor scheduling information (open slots). They do not show other students' names, emails, or booking identities.

๐Ÿ”Ž Optional login: You may sign in at any time if you already have an account. Becoming a tutor always requires full registration and sign-in.

Basic technical information (such as device type, app version, and server logs for security and reliability) may still be processed when you use the app, including in guest mode.

3. Location Data

We request your location permission only when you join a live session. Location access is required to verify your presence during the session.

  • Location data is stored in our database for session records only
  • It is never shared with third parties
  • It is never used for advertising or tracking
  • If location is denied, you will not be able to join the session

When you join a live session, the app may send a device name (for example, your phone or tablet model) so we can link participation records to the device used for that session. This is stored with your live-session participation data for support and verification only, is visible to platform administrators in session participation records, and is not used for advertising or sold to third parties.

4. Camera & Microphone

During live 1-on-1 sessions, we request access to your camera and microphone to enable video and audio communication.

  • You can toggle camera and microphone on/off at any time during the session
  • We do not record any sessions โ€” no audio or video is stored on our servers
  • Session content remains private between the tutor and student

5. Profile Photos

Users may upload a profile photo when creating or updating their account.

  • Profile photos are stored securely on our servers
  • Tutor profile photos are visible to students browsing the tutor listing within the app
  • Student profile photos are visible to their booked tutors within the app
  • Profile photos are never shared with third parties or used outside the app
  • You may update or remove your profile photo at any time from your profile settings
  • If no photo is uploaded, a default avatar is displayed in your place

6. Sessions & Booking Data

When a signed-in student books a tutor session, we store:

Booking and session history are available only after you sign in. Browsing tutors or availability as a guest does not create booking records.

  • Session date, start time, end time
  • Tutor and student identifiers
  • Session status (Upcoming, Current, Past)

This data is used to display your session history and manage your schedule within the app.

7. Data Security

We take data security seriously:

  • All data is transmitted over encrypted connections (HTTPS)
  • OTP codes expire quickly and are single-use only
  • We do not sell, rent, or trade your personal information
  • Access to user data is restricted to authorized team members only

8. Children's Privacy

KonnectED is not intended for children under 11 and above 17. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us with their information, please contact us immediately.

9. Account Deletion

You may permanently delete your account at any time from within the KonnectED app. Account deletion is available separately for Student and Tutor roles.

How to delete your account:

  • Open the app while signed in and use the Delete Account option in your account settings
  • Provide a brief reason for deletion (required)
  • Confirm deletion for your active role (Student or Tutor)

What we delete when you delete as a Student:

  • Your student profile, profile photo, and bio
  • Your session bookings as a student
  • Session reports and live-session participation records linked to your student account (including device name submitted when joining a session, if provided)
  • Your device push notification token (FCM) for that account

What we delete when you delete as a Tutor:

  • Your tutor profile, profile photo, and bio
  • Your availability rules and all tutor time slots
  • Bookings associated with your slots (students with upcoming sessions on your slots will no longer see those sessions)
  • Live-session data tied to your tutor account
  • Your device push notification token (FCM) for that account

If you have both Student and Tutor roles: Deleting one role removes only that role's data. Your other role remains active until you delete it separately. After deleting one role, your account type is updated to reflect the remaining role.

If you have only one role: Deleting your account removes your user account entirely, including your email sign-in record, from our active systems.

๐Ÿ“‹ We retain a limited deletion record (your name, user ID, email, role deleted, reason provided, and date of deletion) for administrative and legal compliance purposes. This record does not restore your profile or allow you to use the app without signing up again.

Deletion is permanent and cannot be undone. You will need to sign up again with your email if you wish to use KonnectED in the future.

  • Request access to the personal data we hold about you
  • Request correction of your data through your profile settings
  • Delete your Student or Tutor account and associated data using the in-app Delete Account feature
  • Contact us if you need help with account deletion or have questions about data we hold after deletion
